The International Center provides leadership and support for the Illinois Institute of Technology’s efforts to internationalize its campus.
At IIT, international students and scholars from around the world are part of our community, and this position supports internalization efforts by serving as a resource to students, scholars, faculty, and campus partners in meeting the needs of the international community through immigration services. The SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) Coordinator supports Illinois Tech by ensuring full compliance with all local, state, and federally mandated SEVIS reporting to the US Department of Homeland Security, and the US Department of State.
This position will work with key Illinois Tech departments and divisions to identify and provide solutions to potential compliance problems, and to ensure international student and scholar data integrity and consistency.
The SEVIS Coordinator will organize, maintain, and oversee the acquisition of governmental and University required information pertinent to the non-immigrant visa/immigration status of international students and scholars. In order to ensure compliance with federal regulations governing non-immigrant visa classifications, particularly those in F-1 and J-1 status/ visa and with SEVIS.
The SEVIS Coordinator will work closely with Illinois Tech’s Office of Technology Service and other key departments across all three (3) campuses, regarding the data/records and status of international students and scholars. The incumbent will also be responsible for interpreting data and analyzing its impact on the ability of the student/scholar and institution to maintain international students and scholars in proper non-immigrant visa status in collaboration with the Director of the International Center.
In collaboration with the Office of Technology Services, the incumbent will be responsible for supervising, and managing all federally mandated updates to the Ellucian ISSM system and also Ellucian Banner updates. This person will also provide thoughtful leadership in special projects and collaborate as needed in the compilation of administrative and statistical reports for the IC and key departments across campus.
Lastly, the SEVIS coordinator will advise international students and scholars on immigration-related matters and a variety of regulatory issues that apply specifically to an individual’s non-immigrant status. Perform duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree; Two years of experience in an academic or business environment focused on technology, compliance/regulations and client relations; Strong ability to create written communication that is informative and clear (as demonstrated in cover letter); US citizenship or lawful permanent resident status to meet federal requirements for professional practice as a Designated School Official.
Knowledge & Skills:
Prior work experience with compliance software such as Ellucian ISSM and Ellucian Banner strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal, intercultural, organizational, and analytical skills are required. Flexibility, cultural sensitivity and the ability to work well alone and with others are also essential.
