Under the direction of the Associate Vice Provost for Global Strategies and International Affairs, the Director supports the international dimension of The Ohio State University by providing leadership to Ohio State’s Education Abroad function and promoting campus internationalization initiatives through the development of education abroad opportunities. The director serves on the leadership team within International Affairs and plays a key role in advancing the organization’s vision and strategy on outbound student mobility. The Director oversees all aspects of the function, including but not limited to, providing expert guidance and consultation for developing programs, advising, business services, risk management, and program promotion. The position works in a shared responsibility model in conjunction with the Colleges to achieve curriculum integration; promotes diversity and inclusion. The role interfaces with students, faculty and staff, and various stakeholders on and off campus. The Director collaborates with campus partners to refine, expand and execute strategies and best practices for increasing education abroad access and affordability, and acts as a liaison to colleges and departments on matters of mutual concern. The position is responsible for ensuring a sustainable platform that enables growth of a diverse portfolio of programs, including short-and long-term faculty-led, exchange and third-party provider/direct enroll programs. The director oversees the creation, implementation and ongoing refinement of efficient policies, procedures and office operations that support productivity and enable seamless services, and selects appropriate technology solutions that are current and enable high quality service delivery; manages the Education Abroad budget to achieve excellent financial stewardship along with the pursuit of academic and institutional excellence. The position works in close collaboration with OIA Communications to ensure appropriate dissemination of achievements and relevant information on Education Abroad in print, broadcast and electronic media. Systematically evaluates programs and services; oversees professional development of staff; leads the scholarship award process; serves on campus-wide committees to build partnerships and leads and participate in strategic discussions that support education abroad at Ohio State. An ideal candidate would be a forward-thinking and collaborative leader who thrives on putting strategy into action, has the ability to demonstrate professionalism and collegiality in a team environment, and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff and stakeholders.
Master’s degree in education, social sciences, humanities, business, or a related field; five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in an international setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of international travel; knowledge of university policy and procedures; experience managing the budget and operations of an office; considerable demonstrated success in a progressively responsible management capacity; strong interpersonal, effective communication and problem solving skills; positive and collaborative work style; strong ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituents; proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
