Together with the Director of International Student Programs and a Program/Host Family Coordinator, the Assistant Director serves to advise and support international students on a range of topics, including F-1 visa regulations. This position also plays an important role in administering three grant programs that are overseen by International Student Programs. This position also plans and implements training and programming opportunities to address the needs, and promote the success, of international students.
25% Serve as DSO and as such provide competent and experience-based advice on F-1 visa regulations and processes; along with other International Student Programs staff, maintain SEVIS database to ensure compliance with federal immigration laws; assist international students with employment, work authorization, and related processes; collaborate with Center for Career Development to help deliver training and resources connected to career exploration, preparedness, and practical training authorization.
30% Oversee and/or support one or more grant programs for international students.
25% Help plan and implement fall orientation program for new international students; help plan and implement meaningful activities/training for international students and help coordinate activities for international students during holidays and college breaks; support Program Coordinator to help coordinate the Host Family Program, including promoting the program, recruiting host families, matching students and families, and planning events throughout the year; advise one or more international student organizations, at the discretion of the Director of International Student Programs.
10% Communicate to international students about available resources, services and events; provide general counseling/support to international students regarding cultural adjustment, homesickness and respond to students during urgent situations; refer international students to appropriate campus resources.
