Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) seeks a dynamic individual to lead the Office of International Affairs (OIA) and invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice Provost for International Affairs (#565030).

The Vice Provost for International Affairs (VPIA) is responsible for providing institution-wide leadership to international initiatives and expanding the comprehensive internationalization of the University’s mission in teaching, research, and service.
Reporting to the Provost, the VPIA coordinates the University’s international programs and provides the focus for new initiatives. The VPIA will oversee the Office of International Affairs (OIA). MTSU’s Academic Master Plan makes a commitment to prepare students to learn and work in a global society; thus, the VPIA works in partnership with deans, directors of international units and faculty members to develop and support international initiatives to achieve the University’s commitment. The OIA facilitates partnerships with international institutions and organizations; provides MTSU students with high-quality international academic programs and educational opportunities abroad; advises, provides orientation and program support for international students and visiting scholars; recruits international students; hosts activities with an international focus, etc. Currently MTSU hosts international students from 65 countries and an ELS Language Center on campus.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: • Provide leadership for the internationalization of MTSU that enhances its quality international programs and advances the University to a position of leadership in international education; • Articulate, advance, communicate, and implement MTSU’s international vision to constituencies and stakeholders; • Secure internal/external funding for international initiatives; • Encourage the development of curriculum innovation in international education including study abroad programs, faculty and student exchanges, etc.; • Encourage scholarly research and creative activities in international education; • Lead the management function of the OIA, i.e. budget development and monitoring, personnel hiring and development, recruitment and strategic planning; • Develop and maintain an extensive network of domestic and international contacts to promote internationalization of Middle Tennessee State University; • Forge partnerships with international universities. • International travel is required.
The successful candidate will be expected to have: • Understanding of current issues in international education to include student and scholar visa issues, dual and joint degree programs, campus-wide international programs, exchanges, and partnerships, curriculum integration, and study abroad innovations. • Deep understanding of higher education systems around the world. • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity. • Experience in developing and sustaining international education partnerships. • Successful experience obtaining and administering federal, state, and foundation grants. • Strong leadership skills, including establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse constituencies, and excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Required Education: Terminal degree from an accredited institution
Required Related Experience: Five (5) years senior administrative experience in international programs required; including managing budgets, staff supervision and development, and strategic planning.
