About the Position
The Assistant Director of International Student Services is part of a dynamic team of professionals committed to supporting the goals of the ISSS unit within the College of Professional and Global education (CPGE) in helping manage the F-1 and J-1 student programs. The incumbent serves as work lead for the advising services for international students, which includes and is not limited to advising international students in F-1 and J-1 status and providing advice, as needed, to campus constituents and off-campus agencies, on policies and processes, with the end goal of promoting international student success.
In consultation with the Director, and in collaboration with the student advising team and the SEVIS compliance team, the position maintains in-depth, advanced knowledge to interpret and provide guidance on federal immigration regulations as they pertain to F-1 and J-1 students. The incumbent conducts high-level analysis, review of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of State (DoS) student immigration regulations, and creates policies for their implementation. In collaboration with the ISSS team, including the advisors, the International Programs Manager, the SEVIS records team, s/he coordinates the "F-1 101" and "J-1 101" status sessions as part of Global Spartan Welcome, employment workshops, as need be, and other additional workshops to facilitate processes for the international students in F-1 and J-1 status. In addition, a core function of the Assistant Director is to act as work lead of the International Student Advisors in ISSS and to facilitate workflow and communication with the SEVIS compliance team and other ISSS staff members.
