Detailed Job Description
General Summary: Perform accounting and financial reporting tasks designed to ensure the accuracy of account transactions and completeness of financial information for RIT Global Delivery Corporation (GDC) and the Office of International Education and Global Programs (OIE & GP). Provide direct accounting, financial and tax reporting support to the global team. Provide excellent service to faculty, staff and students.
Ensure the accuracy of financial reporting; analyze and reconcile operating, capital, special, discretionary, and endowment account transaction detail connected to the OIE & GP confirming completeness and accuracy of data. Prepare and provide monthly Oracle statements to the Director of Global Initiatives for review.
Review GDC monthly financial/accounting activity, monitor zero base accounts, prepare journal entries for GDC activity, overhead, taxes, accounting and legal fees, scholarships/gifts, and corrections, and upload to the general ledger.
Run monthly financial reports for various GDC activities including board presentations, department statements, project summaries and account analyses; review for completeness and consistency; and, maintain accurate account structures within the reports. Assist with preparation of RIT Croatia annual financial statements.
Assist with monthly process for remitting Croatian PIT payments to the Croatian tax authorities including verification of net salaries on overseas employee assignments, submission of information to our external tax advisor for calculation of taxes owed, review prepared tax calculations, coordinate payment of the taxes, and prepare journal entries to record the transactions in the general ledger. Prepare gross up calculations for both RIT and GDC employees for PIT and tax preparation.
Monitor activity and prepare journal entries for GDC payroll. Allocate GDC benefits based on payroll expenses. Assist in the preparation of year-end IP Statements for faculty and staff who worked in Croatia. Review foreign earnings statements and Croatian tax returns for accuracy.
Review accuracy of general ledger account numbers, foreign currency exchange rates, and other pertinent information on Invoice Payment Forms. Make corrections as required and review the preparer.
Manage annual fixed asset inventory process for GDC programs. Review and coordinate requests for funding to support GDC programs, as needed.
Gather information required to prepare core and supporting schedules for GDC's annual IRS 990 Informational Return.
Provide accounting and reporting support for global campus study abroad programs including ensuring accuracy of: 1) student billing at the global campuses and RIT's general ledger; 2) RIT inbound exchange student and global campus study abroad records within the Student Information System (SIS), resulting in accurate financial and student billing statements, work with (SFS) and the Registrar's Office to correct student and/or billing records if required; and 3) accounting for exchange, inbound, and faculty-led study abroad activity, determining if account balances are reasonable and preparing journal entry corrections when required. Prepare and process entries in support of faculty-led study abroad programs & international partnership initiatives, including journal entries, accruals, pre-payments, and budget entries and/or transfers for funds committed by the OIE & GP.
Participate in a minimum of 40 hours of training/professional development annually (or a pro rata amount based on standard working hours). Training must be applicable to the employee's role current within the Controller's Division with the intent of enhancing overall knowledge as well as the specific skills, whether functional or technical, required to perform successfully in the position.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Requirements: Bachelors degree in accounting or business administration required; MBA or CPA preferred or equivalent combination of education and applicable experience. Four to five years general accounting experience required with preference given to applicants with applicable experience in a higher education setting. Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices required. Experience working with an enterprise-wide financial system preferred; a high degree of expertise with MS Office including Excel, Access and Word required.
Skills: Must be highly organized, have excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. To successfully interact with faculty and staff in a highly professional and courteous manner, the Sr. Staff Accountant must possess strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty, staff and students with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Reports to: The Sr. Staff Accountant for Global Programs is a member of the Treasury & Financial Reporting Services team, a business unit within the Controllers Division, reporting to the Financial Reporting Analyst/Global Programs.
