Global engagement is central to Elon’s experience and 78 percent of students have at least one international study experience, often combined with internships, research or service. In addition, Elon’s Study USA program includes opportunities to study in Los Angeles, New York City, Washington, D.C., Hawaii and other locations. The next Dean of Global Education will join President Connie Ledoux Book, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Aswani Volety, and the entire Elon community in pursuing goals of Elon’s new 2020-2030 Strategic Plan and to promote comprehensive internationalization. The Dean reports to the Provost and serves on the Provost Council, among other university councils and committees, in this full-time, 12 month position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Vision and leadership
Partner with senior leadership to develop and realize a global vision for Elon University
Assist offices across campus to incorporate global strategies in their operations, goals and programs
Lead Elon’s effort to continuously move towards comprehensive internationalization
Explore, develop and manage strategic exchange agreements that serve Elon’s mission
Commit to and advocate for inclusive practice and pedagogy in global engagement
Direct the Global Education Center (“GEC”), with its 17 full-time staff, including the direct supervision of the Assistant Dean, Directors and Managers.
Direct Study USA Centers in Los Angeles, New York City and Washington, D.C.
Develop and market new study-abroad and Study USA programs in collaboration with faculty
Oversee the office and program budgets associated with the GEC operations
Oversee risk management and insurance associated with GEC operations
Represent the GEC on campus as well as nationally and internationally
Elon’s signature programs
In collaboration with the Assistant Dean, oversee the courses designated as Global (GBL) and assure their academic quality and intercultural effectiveness
Work with GEC colleagues to develop a broad and flexible range of global engagement opportunities abroad and within the USA (Study USA programs in Los Angeles, New York City, and Washington, D.C.) that meet the needs of all cohorts on campus and assures 100% access to global engagement
Develop and implement strategies to promote access, diversity, equity, and inclusion in global education.
Remain flexible to stay ahead of trends within the International Education industry
Elon’s international community
Achieve Elon’s strategic goal to further internationalize its student body
Collaborate with the Admissions Office to increase the number of international students (from 150 to 300) to meet the institutional goal of doubling international student enrollment between 2020 to 2030
Oversee support, programming and advocacy for international students, including issues of immigration and insurance
Work with institutional partners to encourage, support and expand our exchange students, dual degree students and other institutional collaborations
Along with the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) and the Responsible Officer (RO), maintain relationships with government agencies
Facilitate the hiring and on-boarding of international faculty, staff and scholars
Support international guests coming to Elon University through the Department of State or other programs
Elon’s national standing and community presence
Communicate effectively to various stakeholders, both in and out of the Elon Community
Remain active and represent Elon in the international education community
Collaborate with the Center for Research on Global Engagement to advance the scholarship in the field of international education
Work with the local community to support global thinking
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Extensive international education experience with proven record of leadership
PhD or other terminal degree in a relevant discipline or appropriate professional experience
University leadership experience in international education
Experience with supporting international student recruitment operations
Experience in promoting access, diversity, equity, and inclusion in global education
Experience in managing risk in an international setting
Familiarity with US Citizen & Immigration Services and SEVIS
Proficiency in a language other than English and/or experience living abroad
