UC Berkeley Extension is the continuing education branch of the University of California, Berkeley. Extension offers more than 2,000 courses per year in a variety of subjects both online and in the classroom. Extension's administrative departments and units include student records (transcripts), registration, scheduling, international student services, facilities, financial services, and the cashier's office. In addition to the main Berkeley center, it has responsibility for the maintenance and operation of regional centers in San Francisco (Spear Street), and Belmont and other leased facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Student Services and Advising: provides advising and information to international students and the community regarding campus policies, safety and conduct; housing, health insurance, cultural adjustments, financial matters, program availability and selections, etc.
Provides excellent customer service to students, agents and the community via telephone, walk-in, and email. Interfaces and collaborates effectively with program staff, campus representatives, instructors/professor to address and resolve student issues.
Collaborates with Designated School Officials (DSO) for UC Berkeley Extension to assure compliance with DHS rules and regulations and advises students on their federal, state and local requirements to maintaining their status in the U.S.
Works with student information systems and internal databases to process enrollments, payments, and other transactions, etc., in a timely manner.
Collaborates with academic departments to verify full-time enrollment in program.
Processes international admissions applications, enrollments, and payments for a variety of international student programs.
Applies a thorough understanding of sponsor, partner, and agent contracts and agreements to facilitate group/sponsor enrollments in collaboration with Financial Services.
Communicates clearly and effectively with academic units, students, and international representatives regarding the admission and enrollment process.
Data & Reporting: prepares and creates a variety of statistical reports to present data and trends in enrollment, academic progress, finances, and recruitment to internal and external stakeholders.
Regularly conducts audit reports to identify and resolve discrepancies to ensure the accuracy of international student enrollment records.
Student Orientation & Events: assists in organization and coordination of student orientations, information sessions, departmental program support activities, and special events.
Creates, reviews and delivers presentations/webinars at Orientation, workshops and information sessions.
Coordinates and implements non-complex student events and assists in the planning and implementation of complex events.
May occasionally plan and lead individuals or groups to tour site locations and describe points of interest.
Previous experience advising or working with an international student population.
Knowledge and skills in customer service, advising, counseling, active listening and critical thinking.
Interpersonal skills, multicultural competencies, and ability to work with diverse populations.
High level of organization, time management, verbal and written communication skills and ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced work environment.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Working knowledge of student data systems.
Accuracy with data entry and maintaining student information.
Working knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) in regards to F-1, B-1/B-2, WT/WB and J-1/J-2 visas.
Knowledge and understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, University processes and procedures.
Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, University-specific computer application programs and pertinent databases.
Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
