KPU is seeking an Associate Vice President, International (AVP). This position is responsible for leading the development and implementation of key international student-focused strategies in alignment with the University’s Vision 2023 and Academic Plan. This position will define a vision for the KPU International department under which all faculty, staff and students can pursue international perspectives in teaching, learning and scholarship. The AVP will create and build strategic partnerships worldwide with educational institutions, governments, professional associations, industry and overseas associates to promote KPU as a preferred destination for students. The AVP will encourage a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, support academic excellence, and promote global citizenship in research, scholarship and teaching. The successful incumbent will continue to build and improve an enhanced student experience and will attract and support international and globally-minded students consistent with the University’s mission and vision.
An accomplished leader in international education, the AVP will have earned a Master’s or Professional degree and have experience leading a successful international strategy in an educational environment, ideally within a university. Drawing upon past successes in a field with a significant administrative profile, the successful candidate will promote the University both locally and internationally, and enhance the scope and prestige of KPU’s international presence.

This role reports to the Vice President, Students. Reporting directly to this position is the Director, Global Engagement, Director, Recruitment, Admissions and Articulation, Divisional Business Manager and Confidential Assistant.

Who are we looking for?
Relevant experience in innovative and/or entrepreneurial activities for a public institution.
Demonstrates creative thinking and the ability to develop solutions within challenging times.
Ability to negotiate and manage complex contracts and develop and maintain partnership agreements on a local, provincial, national and international level.
Strong academic background/profile in order to direct and oversee institutional articulation agreements.
Knowledge of recruitment and retention initiatives related to international students.
Knowledge of academic programming available to domestic and international students.
Demonstrated ability to present to and converse with senior stakeholders, including government representatives, at all levels.
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated success as a communicator in an international context and sensitivity to the complexities of cross-cultural communication.
Strategic thinker with strong planning skills.
Demonstrated effective organizational, problem-solving, planning, and analytical skills.
Demonstrated use of sound judgment and reliable decision making.
Proven ability to develop and implement a business plan and achieve revenue targets.
Ability to plan and manage at both the strategic and operational levels and successfully lead and manage change in a multi-union, complex environment.
Must be able to simultaneously manage multiple priorities and demonstrate excellent time management skills.
Experience with recruitment and development of assigned employees including the assessment of performance and required follow up.
Ability to travel extensively internationally and locally. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is preferred.
Fluency in multiple languages is desirable.
What education & experience should you have?
Masters or Professional degree in a related field
A minimum of 10 years of recent related senior leadership experience, preferably in a post-secondary institution. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Expertise in international activities including international partnership development, international recruitment and retention, global mobility and strategic planning.
A working knowledge of immigration as it relates to international student interest in Canada. Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) designation is not mandatory but is considered an asset.
KPU is a multi-campus institution, frequent travel between campuses will be required. The Associate Vice President, International will have offices in both Surrey and Richmond, BC.
