GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, this position will manage grant programs and short-term exchange students. This position will advise students participating in specific grant programs according to grant and/or program requirements. The individual must exercise a high degree of independent judgment and decision making with the assigned functions, as well as work cooperatively as a team player with the other office staff, students, college personnel and the general public. A knowledge and love for other cultures would be an advantage as well as a positive and helpful attitude with international students. The International Program Coordinator assists the Dean of Global Learning and the International Student Advisor in the creation and implementation of student events and activities that integrate international students and US students and create a global learning environment on campus. The job requires a flexible schedule with the ability to work some weekends and evenings.

Serve as the Community College Initiative (CCI) Grant Program Leader managing all aspects of the CCI program including selection of students, conducting regular liaison between Kirkwood Community College and Northern Virginia Community College, communicating with cohort of CCI coordinators, developing materials, ensuring all activity reports and deadlines are met, advising and registering CCI students in appropriate coursework, and assessing student success in the program.
Manage grant budget, expenses, and reports as needed and required by grants office and grant administrators.
Develop and facilitate delivery of virtual and in-person orientation learning sessions as well as program-long cultural learning sessions. Cross-cultural learning facilitation is a necessary duty.
Provide cultural, personal as well as academic advising to a diverse set of international students with attention to problem solving, crisis management and resolving student issues.
Advise international students on matters of housing, transportation, insurance, health, banking, shopping, driver’s license, SSN, postal information and other cultural matters.
Manage regular CCI check-in meetings and communication streams with relevant deans, faculty and ELA Advisors to ensure that ELA and relevant academic curriculum is in sync with cultural programming and to develop strategies for intervention as student issues or curriculum issues occur.
Develop and manage cultural and social programs for international students, grant-sponsored international students and international visitors to Kirkwood with special focus on strategies to involve international students, grant students and American students in intentional programming to increase interaction among students of different cultures.
Lead short-term visiting student programs for international students participating in short-term exchange programs at Kirkwood including program development, international student airport arrival/departure and pick-up, transportation to housing and/or host family as required, transportation to health care visits, events, etc.
Lead and manage all elements of New Student Orientation program for arriving grant students.
Perform other related work duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
2 years of relevant programming experience.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
Preferred Master’s Degree and/or 5 years of relevant programming experience.
Teaching, counseling and/or training experience.
Budget planning experience.
Intercultural experience living in or working in another country.
Foreign language proficiency.
