The College of New Jersey’s Center for Global Engagement is seeking an Assistant Director for Exchange Programs and International Services.  This position reports to the Executive Director for Global Engagement. 

TCNJ’s Center for Global Engagement (CGE) engages with the TCNJ community and international stakeholders to provide personalized services and transformative global engagement experiences.  Toward these ends, CGE develops and manages TCNJ’s existing portfolio of international institutional and organizational partners that facilitate inbound and outbound student, staff and faculty mobility. CGE provides professional advice and personalized support services to those students, faculty and staff involved in global engagement.  CGE staff administer systems and processes that directly support TCNJ global engagement programs and ensures compliance with US federal SEVIS and other government regulations.  CGE partners with other offices across campus to mitigate risk and manage crisis for global engagement programs.  The Assistant Director (AD) plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission of CGE.

For exchange partnerships, the AD maintains an inventory of TCNJs global engagement with partners.  Within this broader portfolio, the AD is responsible for managing the bilateral exchange portfolio.  These duties include: 

• Establishing goals, policies and procedures for these partnerships; proposing related budgets; determining benchmarks and assessing progress, updating agreements;
• Ensuring student mobility is in balance and working proactively with campus units and exchange partners to remedy unbalanced exchange;  
• Providing daily advising to incoming and outgoing students, faculty, and staff who are participating in opportunities with bilateral partner institutions;
• Introducing faculty at TCNJ and partner institutions to each other to facilitate collaborations; and
• Managing the International House Living Learning Community in collaboration with Residential Education and Housing.

For International Services, the AD serves as the chief compliance officer for F-1 and J-1 regulations and serves as TCNJ’s Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) and Responsible Officer (RO).  Duties include:

• Providing specialized immigration counseling to F-1 and J-1 students and scholars through advising appointments and group workshops;  
• Updating individual records in SEVIS database;  
• Liaising with campus partners; acting as lead trainer to the campus community;  
• Providing training and guidance on regulation interpretation to DSOs and AROs;
• Staying current on relevant government regulations and peer institution practices;
• Managing orientation programming and collaborating on new student arrival;
• Preparing reports for internal use and externally for Open Doors and Department of State.

Knowledge and Skills Qualifications:

• Knowledge of the federal government regulations and of good practice in guiding international students and scholars as well as familiarity with the SEVIS database to ensure compliance and appropriate data reporting. 
• U.S. citizenship and/or permanent residency (to be able to use SEVIS database).
• Ability to expand knowledge on maintaining inventory of global engagement partners and managing bilateral exchange portfolio.
• Basic knowledge of management principles including:  developing goals, policies and procedures; proposing budgets; determining benchmarks for success and for assessing progress.
• Strong intercultural communication skills and ability to collaborate with faculty and staff colleagues at TCNJ and at partner institutions.  Readiness to learn protocols for other countries and to adjust behavior to align with protocols. 
• Ability to appropriately advise and counsel students, scholars, and campus community on the various functions within the exchange program and international services portfolios.

Education and Experience:

• Graduation from an accredited college with a BA required with preference given to those who have a Master's degree. 
• Three years’ experience in higher education administration, as a faculty member or in another field that is directly related to the functions of the position.
• Experience studying a language different than one's first language with preference given to those who have acquired near native fluency in that language.  
• At least 1 year of experience serving as a PDSO and/or 2-5 years as a DSO. 
• At least 1 year of experience serving as a RO and/or 2-5 years as an ARO.
