The University of Texas at Austin seeks a representative to serve as Director of the Mexico Gateway Office located on the campus of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City, Mexico. The gateway office serves as UT’s focal point for the support of research collaborations, virtual exchanges, scholarly symposia, alumni engagement, and other activities in Mexico and the region. The Director will be an employee of The University of Texas at Austin Mexico Institute (UTAMI), a non-profit civil association licensed to operate in Mexico.

The Director of the Mexico Gateway Office carries out their duties under the direction of the Senior Vice Provost for Global Engagement (SVPGE) at UT Austin, the Mexico Gateway Office, and UT Austin as represented by the interests and needs of faculty and students on campus, as well as alumni. The Director works closely with the SVPGE’s leadership team and UT Austin campus stakeholders to identify and implement strategic global engagement opportunities for UT Austin, expand the number and scope of global programs, and increase UT Austin’s engagement in Mexico and the region.

Responsibilities include:

External Outreach/Representation

• Represent initiatives and interests identified by UT Austin. Support Texas Global with the implementation of a positioning strategy in Mexico and in the region. Cultivate existing relationships in Mexico and build a network of stakeholders in mutual areas of interest to support UT Austin’s research, creative, and teaching
• Articulate UT Austin goals and aspirations with leading universities, academic organizations, private foundations, non-profit agencies, government and industry to:
  • develop opportunities for UT Austin faculty and students to engage in collaborative research and other forms of research activity in Mexico and the region;
  • identify and secure research funding opportunities for UT Austin faculty and graduate students; and
  • develop opportunities for enhanced international learning experiences for UT Austin students, including study-abroad programs, internships, and short-term exchanges.

Programming/Outreach

• Collaborate with Texas Global, the University Development Office, and Texas Exes to support planned alumni and networking events. Engage with local alumni and leadership of Texas Exes chapters to increase activities centered on UT’s academic
• Represent UT Austin to prospective students at academic events in
• Partner with Texas Global’s external relations team to contribute to an online and social media strategy. Establish media exposure for UT Austin’s activities in Mexico. Ensure consistency of branding across all media. Contribute information and advice regarding UT Austin’s global engagement
• Develop, promote, and deliver programming at the Mexico Gateway Office or other venues in Mexico, including research conferences, workshops, public lectures, seminars, and cultural events.

Administration/Logistics

• Convene and attend meetings with current and future stakeholders in academe, as well as the public and private sectors, while documenting the outcomes of each meeting. Draft formal and informal correspondence and conduct presentations and meetings in English and Spanish to represent the activities of UT
• Respond clearly and in a timely manner to all questions, issues, problems, and/or needs of stakeholders.
• Coordinate travel agendas and provide logistical support for visits made by UT Austin
• Prepare reports and communicate regularly on Mexico events and
• Work with Texas Global finance team to ensure financial management and accounting is accurate, documented, and aligned with best practices.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree required; doctoral degree preferred. At least 10 years of relevant professional experience working in higher education, non-profit administration, or a U.S multinational firm in Mexico. Experience with U.S. higher education and/or U.S. university students. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English with excellent writing, editing, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and commit to the values of global education and research and their relationship to the mission of a public university. Intercultural competency and diplomacy with the ability to be a nimble team player. Knowledge of productivity software including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to travel occasionally to the U.S., throughout Mexico, and the wider region, as necessary.

Salary

US$70,000+ dependent upon qualifications
