Under the direction of the Director of International Student Services, this position will provide support for the International Admission process that recruits and admits international students to the campus community and serves as the lead systems administrator for all international admission processes and procedures. The Coordinator will also serve as an immigration advisor and Designated Signing Officer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages the international application process from start to finish; works with international admissions staff to ensure accurate file creation and data entry in the university Banner and Slate systems.
Serves as the lead for the maintenance of international student files and records prospective students, applicants, current students and alumni
Works closely with admissions offices in each of the graduate schools and the English as a Second Language program to facilitate the international admission and immigration process
Assists with recruitment logistics, including mailing and communication with prospective students and contacts in schools overseas.
Assists the Director and Assistant Director of International Admissions with processing acceptance and scholarship letters
Assists the Director and Assistant Director/International Student Advisor with immigration documentation specific to international students
Serves as an Immigration Advisor Designated Signing Officer (DSO) for immigration documents
Assists Director and Immigration Advisor with aspects of immigration process, including assistance with mailings of immigration documents and student support services, as needed.
Works closely with staff on particular projects involving international student recruitment and cultural services, such as the New Student Orientation, Cultural Ambassadors Program, American Traditions Series, and other information sessions and workshops geared toward international students.
Assists with the creation and editing of the Center for Global Engagement website and other publications and communications.
Assists with general office management.
Performs other job duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Bachelor’s degree, from an accredited institution, preferably in an area related to education, international affairs and/or communication.
Requires 1-2 years of administrative experience in an office setting, or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.
Interest in the field of International Education in general and an appreciation for intercultural communication and diverse cultures
Possess excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to establish and maintain good relationships with colleagues, students, the campus community, and the general public
Experience in clerical work, including proficiency in automated database systems, record keeping, filing, and communication skills
Ability to use considerable independent judgment in implementing tasks and supervising other office support staff
Strong quantitative skills: budgeting, statistical and spreadsheet software
Ability to learn immigration rules and regulations and apply them in appropriate situations
Ability and willingness to offer input where the functions of the office are concerned
Knowledge of the University’s policies, especially in relation to international students
Willingness to participate in professional development
Due to the need for assistance with immigration processing, candidate must be a U.S. citizen
