The PIE is an academic program that equips 1. global students to excel at NAU and around the world using the English language, 2. teachers in training to deliver outstanding English instruction, and 3. scholars with research avenues to further advance effective English teaching and learning. The PIE serves hundreds of international students both at NAU’s Flagstaff campus, online, and in country at remote campus locations.
The PIE Academic Program Coordinator will develop and support the various programs and operations at the PIE through assisting the PIE Director and Academic Director. This position will assist in the creation, implementation, and coordination of PIE program initiatives; manage PIE communications; oversee PIE facilities; and liaise with other departments at NAU as needed. The Program Coordinator will also support PIE students, assist PIE instructional staff and supervise PIE student workers.

Collaboratively create and manage PIE program initiatives including:
PIE semester programs
PIE short-term programs - online, hybrid, or in-person
Support PIE students academically and programmatically through instruction and advisement
Manage official PIE communications (website, social media, email, phone, in-person visitors)
Compose correspondence for students, staff, and other NAU departments or partners
Assist in the fiscal operations of PIE programs, including working with CIE Operations and NAU Service Teams
Manage and maintain PIE administrative files, records and databases
Create reports based on the information in the databases
Assist with PIE semester course functions in LOUIE including enrolling students, maintaining class scheduling, and inputting grades.
Maintain and update PIE policies and procedures, student handbook, and faculty handbook
Prepare, distribute and report on PIE program evaluations and surveys
Functions as the South Beaver Building manager, submitting work orders for building maintenance and repairs
Maintains welcoming environment for employees, students, and visitors
Maintain administrative and building calendars, schedules, and event planning
Oversee and maintain necessary learning resources, books, and materials at the PIE
Manages building equipment, including copy machine and building keys
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student workers to assist with administrative duties.
Perform additional tasks as assigned
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with three years of experience in education: international or TESL.
Demonstrated experience in operating across cultures.
Two years of experience in designing and offering courses/programs.
Any combination of experience that is equivalent to the above.
A Master’s degree in TESOL, International Education, or other relevant field
Experience living and/or studying abroad for one year or more
Some experience with a language other than English.
Experience with conducting virtual courses, events and platforms.
Experience with office administration
Experience with grant writing
Experience with managing database and spreadsheet data
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Skill with the organization and implementation of academic English programs.
Ability to academically support students
Knowledge of rules, regulations, guidelines, and procedures related to NAU and Program in Intensive English semester and short-term academic programs.
Knowledge of office and administrative practices and principles.
Skill with using or learning computer software programs like Excel, Wordpress, BlackBoard Learn, or other similar programs
Ability to effectively communicate
Skill in collecting, evaluating and reporting on data to establish program priorities
Ability to initiate, problem solve, and make independent decisions
Ability to effectively work with and/or supervise others in a way that contributes to a positive work environment.
Acute awareness of cross-cultural communication styles and ability to respond to diverse situations in culturally appropriate ways and promote a diverse, inclusive environment
