The Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) is accepting applications for the position of Administrative Professional/International Education Intern in the Office of International Education (OIE), a unit of Academic Affairs.
This position is a 18-month, benefits-eligible contract position, intended to provide a recent graduate or person new to the field of international education with experience in international student and scholar services, education abroad, internships abroad and curriculum integration. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Administrative Operations.
The International Education Intern will receive professional development coaching from multiple staff in OIE, access to systems and software used in the field, and online training through NAFSA or other organizations.
The International Education Intern is the first and occasionally last person to be in contact with students and others served by OIE; therefore his/her role is critical to OIE’s relationships. The Intern is responsible for manning the front desk and ensuring that all students, parents, staff and faculty that visit and/or do business with OIE are served in a timely, professional manner.
Coordinate all functions of main office reception. This includes opening/closing the office, managing office visitors, fielding calls and emails, updating departmental calendars, processing, distributing, and preparing mail/packages, and scheduling service shifts.
Provide initial support and resources to study abroad students and international students.
Organize office gatherings and OIE events. This includes space reservations, preparing invitations, coordinating staff and volunteers, arranging catering, event set-up and clean-up, and event marketing.
Process study abroad and international plan applications.
Manage unit tuition waiver process.
Participate in various unit committees, such as Study Abroad Scholarship Committee, Tuition Waiver Committee, International Education Week Committee, and Diversity Abroad Work Group.
Work on projects that rotate through all OIE work groups (Education Abroad, International Student and Scholar Services, and On-Campus Internationalization).
Other duties as assigned by Assistant Director of Administrative Operations.
Requirements for this position
Ability to listen to and interact effectively with diverse constituents from the U.S. and from other countries. Strong oral and written communication skills Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to respond to varied requests and perform several duties at the same time. Excellent computer skills in word processing and e-mail.
Preferences for this position
Bachelor’s Degree. International experience and foreign language proficiency. Experience greeting and responding to the public in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
