Under the general direction of the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the International Student Services Coordinator oversees the full range of regulatory responsibilities related to the DHS database, SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System), to ensure institutional and individual compliance with the federal regulations governing international students and scholars in the U.S.
Serves as a DSO (Designated School Official); has access to (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) for issuance of immigration documents, records maintenance, regulatory responsibilities, and all other DSO duties as assigned.
Responsible for monitoring international students’ enrollment and determining enrollment eligibility in relation to selected courses and majors.
Provides guidance to international students, parents and other members of the university community on maintaining legal F-1 status and on related administrative and regulatory processes.
Recommends and approves immigration benefits for F-1 students (including, but not limited to, on-campus and practical training employment, extensions of stay, travel, and re-entry procedures, etc.).
Stays up to date with changes initiated by the Department of Homeland Security; works with PDSO to implement changes.
Collaborates with other team members in planning and delivering international orientations and immigration check-in sessions.
Updates departmental web page and social media.
Participates in and assists with international student engagement activities and signature international events.
Represents ISS in admission or student engagement events; collaborates with colleagues in Enrollment Management and Student Development to support international student engagement.
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience working in a university setting with international/other diverse populations, or in a similar international educational setting required.
Must be U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident and meet DHS criteria as DSO.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent customer service, organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Working knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) in regards to F visas.
Experience with advising international students on DHS rules and regulations.
Experience in processing nonimmigrant visa document and fulfilling SEVIS reporting requirements set by the Department of Homeland Security.
Experience with SEVIS and with SEVIS Help Desk to resolve issues.
