International Student and Scholar Advising in Penn State Global at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking an experienced professional for the position of International Scholar Adviser. The International Scholar Adviser is responsible for advising J-1 scholar scholars in research scholar/professor, short-term scholar, and specialist categories.
Primary functions of the position include the following:
Advising and assisting international scholars regarding complex immigration and visa regulations
Interpreting regulations and providing guidance to departments and HR staff on government regulations in the area of immigration and visas
Reviewing Penn State programs, policies, and practices to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and policies
Presentations and programming for international scholars and host departments
Creating reports and responding to inquiries regarding immigration matters, and creating written communication.
The International Scholar Adviser will serve as an Alternate Responsible Officer with the Exchange Visitor program within the State Department and in SEVIS (Student Exchange Visitor Information System) and therefore must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
In addition, the successful candidate must be able to work independently as well as contribute and collaborate effectively as a member of a team, multitask, meet urgent deadlines, adapt to changing demands and priorities, and read and interpret federal regulations.
This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master's degree plus 1-3 years of experience is preferred. The individual must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident to meet U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Department of State requirements. Seeking an individual who has experience with immigration regulations, preferably J regulations, and immigration software experience, preferably SUNAPSIS.
